Abstracts
New quantum technologies, such as quantum computers and quantum
cryptography, have the potential to completely reshape both
computer science, and society more broadly. We are at the early
stages of this development and have, as computer science educators,
the unique opportunity to help shape the future of quantum informatics
and its education early on. To date, there is little research on
quantum informatics from the perspective of computer science education.
With my PhD research, I aim to contribute to shaping this
new field of research. I will apply the method of educational reconstruction,
to examine if, why and how quantum informatics could
be taught to middle school students. Using a design-based approach,
I will develop and empirically evaluate educational materials and
an exemplary lessons-plan with middle school students. Finally, I
want to define how teaching quantum informatics positions itself
within computer science education.
