Zusammenfassungen
Finally, in the last chapter, the more specific field of information visualisation is
illustrated with several specific examples of virtual spaces that are uploaded with
various architectural concepts. Furthermore, a VRML-application called VR/search that also
has been programmed as part of this work is explained by some of the cyberspace
design-principles proposed by the author Michael Benedikt.
Von Andrew van de Moere im Text Information Architecture I
n this last chapter, the attention will be much
more focused on one particular aspect of the
relationship between cyberspace and
architecture. In fact, the field of information
visualisation can be seen as an important and
rapidly developing scientific field on its own. It
is thus certainly not the intention to examine
the technical aspects or detailed concepts of
the applications based on the insights of
cognitive perception and efficient
programming thoroughly. In the contrary, it is
much more interesting, perhaps, to pursue the
future possibilities architecture could create
when cyberspace is understood as a primarily
informational tool. Furthermore, it is noticed
that many authors mention or are convinced
that cyberspace also possesses some valid
rules and principles which its designers should
follow. However, it is remarkable that not
many dare or are able to theorise them and
write them down. In this view, the principles
Michael Benedikt himself has proposed, are
considered more then challenging, certainly
out of the point of view that a part of the future
of architecture is foreseen to be built in the
virtual realm.
